Term 1, 2026 – Hand-Building Introduction Short Course 📅 17 January - 14 March (5 sessions over 10 weeks) ⏰ Fortnightly on Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Join us for a hands-on creative journey in this 5-week introductory course focused on hand-building with clay. Perfect for beginners, this course provides a solid foundation in pottery, teaching essential techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab building through guided projects and demonstrations. With classes held every second Saturday, this course is designed for those who want to explore clay at a comfortable pace while balancing weekend commitments. Under the expert guidance of Valeria, you'll create functional and decorative pieces, such as bowls, vases, and mugs, while developing confidence in working with clay. ✨ What’s Included: • 5 fortnightly sessions over 10 weeks for flexible learning • Small group of 10 for personalized instruction • Inclusive fee covering 5kgs clay, tools, firing & studio time • A private shelf for storing work-in-progress • 5kg of clay provided (extra available at a student discount) 📌 Important Notes: • Sessions: 17, 31 January + 14, 28 February + 14 March • Missed classes cannot be rescheduled, so please check dates carefully before registering. 🏺 Class Flow & Demos (10:15–10:45 AM): Each session introduces a new hand-building technique: 1️⃣ Introduction to clay, wedging & pinch pots 2️⃣ Joining pinch pots to form vases or sculptural pieces 3️⃣ Coiling techniques for larger vessels 4️⃣ Slab building—creating mugs or vases 5️⃣ Glazing & finishing techniques 📢 Studio Guidelines: • Respect & Creativity: A safe, non-judgmental space to explore, learn & play. • Catch-ups: Not available for this short course—please check dates carefully before booking. • Storage: Items are kept for 2 months after you leave. • Refunds: No refunds within 5 business days of term start unless we fill your spot. • Parking & Security: Marcel, our friendly security guard, will help you park on Victoria Road and walk you to/from your car. Cancellation Policy
• If notice of cancellation is received more than 5 days before the workshop, class, or course, your fee will be refunded less a 10% cancellation fee. • Refunds will not be issued for cancellations made less than 4 business days before the program begins, unless the space can be filled. • No refund is issued if you cancel or do not show up on the start date. • In the event of illness or emergency, you’re welcome to send someone in your place. Please email their name and contact details to info@clayhands.co.za before the session. • Clay Hands reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a workshop, class, or course due to low enrolment or unforeseen circumstances. Should this happen, you’ll be notified by email or phone at least 4 business days in advance and receive a full refund.
