Term 2, 2025 – Wheel Throwing Introduction Short Course 📅 26 April – 21 June (5 sessions over 10 weeks) ⏰ Fortnightly on Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Discover the magic of the potter’s wheel in this 5-week introductory course, designed for absolute beginners looking to build a strong foundation in wheel throwing. Under the guidance of Sikho, you’ll learn the core techniques needed to shape clay on the wheel, focusing on cylinders—the key building block for many pottery forms. This course runs fortnightly, allowing time for practice and reflection between sessions while accommodating busy weekend schedules. By the end, you’ll have gained confidence in working with the wheel and created a selection of handmade pieces to take home. ✨ What’s Included: • 5 fortnightly sessions over 10 weeks for steady learning • Small group of 8 for personalized instruction • Inclusive fee covering clay, firing, underglazes & dip-glaze access • A private shelf for storing work-in-progress • 5kg of clay provided (extra available at a student discount) 📌 Important Notes: • Sessions: 26 April, 10 May, 24 May, 7 June, 21 June • Missed classes cannot be rescheduled, so please check dates carefully before registering. 🏺 Class Flow & Demos (10:15–10:45 AM): Each session builds on the fundamentals of wheel throwing: 1️⃣ Introduction to clay, wedging & centering and throwing a basic cylinder 2️⃣ Repeating 'Throwing a cylinder' (the foundation of mugs & vases) 3️⃣ Trimming and refining forms, pulling and attaching handles 4️⃣ Throwing practice 5️⃣ Triming, Glazing & finishing techniques 📢 Studio Guidelines: • Respect & Creativity: A safe, non-judgmental space to explore, learn & play. • Catch-ups: Not available for this short course—please check dates carefully before booking. • Storage: Items are kept for 2 months after you leave. • Refunds: No refunds within 5 business days of term start unless we fill your spot. • Parking & Security: Marcel, our friendly security guard, will help you park on Victoria Road and walk you to/from your car. This course is the perfect first step into wheel throwing, giving you the confidence to continue exploring pottery beyond the basics. Cancellation Policy
Enrollment in workshops, classes and courses is limited. Early booking is encouraged, as many workshops fill quickly. A waiting list is established if a workshop is filled. • If notice of cancellation is received more than 5 days before the workshop/class/course the fee will be refunded, less 10% cancellation fee. • Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received less than 4 business days before the program begins unless that space can be filled. NO REFUND is issued in the event you cancel or do not show up on the start date. • In the event of emergency/illness, you can send an alternative person in your place. Please email us the name and email address of that person. Alternatively, if notice is given and there is a person on a waiting list that can fill your space a full refund will be given. • Classes, courses and series requires a weekly commitment for a number of consecutive weeks. Catch-ups, unless exceptional circumstance, cannot be accommodated for foundation courses as too much will be missed out. Please check dates carefully. • Clay Hands reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a workshop/class/course due to low enrolment or other unforeseen circumstances. If this should be necessary, Natasha will contact participants by email or phone at least 4 business days in advance of the date of the workshop, followed by a full refund.
